Q & A

Q: Why does God give us dreams and visions?

A:  God gives us dreams and visions to communicate to us.  He wants to get our attention in order to warn us, speak to us about important issues, allow us to see future events, and to ask us to pray for and encourage someone.

It is so honoring, and honestly humbling to be included in the Father’s business.   (For more about that, check out When God Speaks )

Q: Why do I have more dreams than visions?

A:  Sometimes God wants to get our full attention, so He waits until we fall asleep to get it, when our minds are still and opened to His voice.

I’ll admit, my mind goes a mile minute, and I get distracted super easy.  However when I am spending my quite time with God, He uses scripture to speak to me, and then if I have a vision, that’s usually when it happens….or when my mind is steadfast on the Lord during the day.

Q: I heard dreams and visions are not the way God speaks to us today, is that true?

A:  Unfortunately, there are some people who call this type of communication from God the “lower” way He speaks to us.  However, I am not convinced, and I steer clear of anyone who tries to tell me that what God is telling me through a dream or a vision is the “inferior” way He speaks.

Be careful and leery of these types of teachings.  Scripture tells us clearly that God speaks through dreams and visions today, as well as through scripture, through his teachers and all of creation.  He is God and can speak to us in any way He chooses.

Joel: 2-28″ And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.  Your sons and daughters will prophesy, and old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions.   Hebrews 13:8  “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

Q: Are all of my dreams from God?

A: I say no, not all dreams are from God.  You need to be very prayerful, and aware of where your dreams are coming from.

We have dreams for all kinds of different reasons.  Some dreams are from events we’ve experienced during the day.  For example, a movie we watched, or an argument we’ve had with a friend that day.  Also, a fever or illness can give us strange dreams.  (Not to say  that God doesn’t give us strange images and symbols in the dreams He gives us, because some are really out there, I admit.)

Keep in mind that dreams can, in fact, come from the enemy to attack you or make you fearful.  If you prayerfully align all of our dreams with scripture, your good.   Also, if you’ve had  a dream with vivid colors and symbols, and you can’t get it out of your mind, you should know that one’s from God.
