From Desolation to Restoration

We started looking for houses, and even put an offer down on one, but the offer fell through. Confused and discouraged, we stopped our search completely. Then God gave me a night vision, showing me my future house! So, I knew He would be faithful and we just needed to wait.

Several years ago, our family went through the loss of the majority of our earthy blessings. One of which was our beloved home. We had some financial set backs, so we tried to sell it. But even after sprucing up the place and praying a lot, God didn’t grant our request. So we lost it to the bank. Even still, God was allowing it for reasons we wouldn’t know for several years.

I remember packing up the last few items before we said goodbye to our home of eight years. I picked up the last potted plant out side the front door, and catching my eye were the little hand prints of our children pressed into the concrete walk way. I questioned why God would allow such a horrible thing happen to us. It was heart wrenching to say the least. But in His grace, He spoke an encouraging word to me, and I remember hearing His voice very clearly. He said…”I have something better.” So despite the weight of our struggle to trust in God no matter what, we hung on to Jesus to get us through. Along the way, He was faithful to meet our every need.

Fast forwarding about five years, still no house. We couldn’t qualify for a loan yet. Jobs were coming and going. God took us on a long journey of moving from state to state and place to place. To this day I’m not quite sure why he let us go through all of it. Stability was out the window. But I knew he was definitely working behind the scenes to bless our socks off, because there had to be a reason for the madness!

Even after learning so much about the Lord and His character over the years, I couldn’t help but wonder if the reason we weren’t settling down roots and buying a house, was the way I was praying. So, I got on the web and looked up how to pray for a house. I found an article on the web written by this amazing woman of faith. Her blog described a prayer using scripture from Matthew 7. She included a testimonial from a woman who prayed for a house, and she received it from God about a year later!

That was it. I was going big. I dug into the word of God, boldly asking for a house in faith. I began to pray God’s promises back to Him. He began to show me the importance of tithing and giving out of faith. He revealed that If we honor Him with our first fruits, all would go well with us. So we took the plunge and gave 10% of our income to Him. Soon, I was offered a better paying job plus benefits! My husband landed a steady well paying job, and we began to give and tithe faithfully, honoring God, putting Him first.

I prayed for the house I wanted….really wanted. I wrote down a list of details along with the promise from God from Matt 7, and presented it before the Lord. Soon, God began to move in my heart to anticipate my petition.

About five months later, my sister in law sent us a link to a house that was for sale in our area. It was the perfect house for the price! It had everything on my list plus more. We called our realtor, and when we went to see the house, it was identical to the house God showed me in my dream. He was giving me encouragement to keep trusting in Him, and when I would see the house, I would have no doubt it was ours!

The amazing thing is, the house was accidentally listed $20,000 below the asking price. When we put the offer down, they said their asking price was more than what was listed, and that they were sorry for the error.

Knowing this was the house God was giving us, we went ahead put the offer down for the price advertised anyway, and they accepted!! God is so good! This house is definitely better than the house we lost. It may have taken years to come to fruition, but God meant what He said years earlier as I stood wondering why God was allowing all we went through. He had something better.

Now, we are in a better town, surrounded by better friends, and serving God in a lovely Spirit filled church that we have been praying to find for years. Losing that house was actually a blessing. It is amazing how God works, and His ways are definitely not anything like ours.
